camalexin synthase EC#: 1.14.19.52; ChemWhat Code: 1375817
Product Name | camalexin synthase |
Example Structure | |
Synonyms | bifunctional dihydrocamalexate synthase/camalexin synthase, CYP71B15, CYP71B15/PAD3, PAD3 |
EC Number | 1.14.19.52 |
CAS Registry Number | |
Comments | This P450 (heme thiolate) enzyme, which has been characterized from the plant Arabidopsis thaliana, catalyses the last two steps in the biosynthesis of camalexin, the main phytoalexin in that plant. The enzyme catalyses two successive oxidation events. During the first of oxidation the enzyme introduces a C-N double bond, liberating hydrogen cyanide, and during the second oxidation it catalyses a decarboxylation. |
Cofactor | heme-thiolate |
History | |
Reactions | 2-(L-cystein-S-yl)-2-(1H-indol-3-yl)acetonitrile + 2 [reduced NADPH- -hemoprotein reductase] + 2 O(2) = camalexin + hydrogen cyanide + CO(2) + 2 [oxidized NADPH–hemoprotein reductase] + 4 H(2)O. |
